"Flying over Arcadia took longer than expected.

There was an incident and I had to take cover for a while."

Christophe's eyes narrowed and a frown crossed his face. "What kind of incident?"

"I was spotted," Talon admitted with reluctance.

"The Lycans tried to shoot me down and I hid in the ravine until they gave up and left."

"Unacceptable. I can't afford to lose my lieutenant, especially now when we're getting closer to our goals."

"How so, Sire?"

"I received a message from the Lycan Alpha requesting a meeting. He wants to negotiate for the release of the hostages."

"What is he offering in return?"

"He hinted at some kind of alliance. It's nonsense, of course. He has nothing I want." A sinister smile creased his lips. "And I have no intention of letting the Lycans go, but I will meet with him in neutral territory."

"How many guards will you take?"

"A small, visible contingent and a larger one in the shadows. I'm sure he'll do the same. At the very least, we'll learn a bit more about our enemy. We might even get lucky and capture another of his kind. Then Abbi can start ingesting Lycan blood and you will impregnate her."
